In 2016, Josh Carter's solo project CIRCA '94. (then known as CIRCA 201294.) was born. Josh began piecing together songs he had been developing over the years which, in 2017, culminated in the recording of punk/alternative influenced EP 'Let Yourself Expire'. This was recorded across Build My Song (formerly Moose's Music Hole) and friend Andrew Page's house.

 

Having played frequent open mic nights throughout 2018 to support the release of 'Let Yourself Expire', Josh performed for the first time officially under the Circa name when supporting local band, Tricky Business. This was the first time CIRCA '94. played a set of entirely original material, and the headline band also joined to perform 'Expire' to end the set. Later that year during another support slot, Chaosaroma also joined CIRCA '94. to end their set with 'Expire'.

 

In 2019, CIRCA '94 took to the studio again to record and release the single 'Locked Up'. The single marked the departure of the punk influenced sound in the first EP, shifting towards an atmospheric, alternative rock theme that has been carried through all subsequent songs.

 

Before COVID struck in 2020, CIRCA '94. performed a full set with a band for the first time at the Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton. Josh Carter was joined by Mike Bansal, Blade Edwards and Mike Fergusson, marking the transition from solo acoustic project to fully fledged band. The pandemic hit soon after, and it would be mid-2021 before the band returned to the stage, joined by now full time drummer Marc Cope, supporting bands throughout the rest of the year such as [spunge] and The Bad Rats.

 

Throughout the pandemic, Josh Carter continued writing and recording tracks for the next EP, releasing another two singles, 'Phantom' and 'Paper Tiger', as well as an acoustic version of Let Yourself Expire track 'Hell'.

 

After two long years, the second EP 'Mind in Collapse' was finally announced, to be released in mid-2022. Around this time, Ben Stanaway stepped into the band to play bass.

 

Whilst both EPs have been written and recorded by Josh Carter, CIRCA '94. are currently working together to write and record new music whilst performing frequently to support the release of 'Mind in Collapse'.
